Organisation of the 3rd Ghana Water Forum will take a slightly different look from the two previous editions. This time, instead of the Organising Committee prescribing topics for the thematic sessions and identifying institutions to make presentations on them, only a main theme and sub themes will be identified and advertized for interested institutions and individuals to submit papers for presentation. The reason is simple – to open the Forum up and provide opportunity for any organization, group or individual to share their knowledge with WASH sector stakeholders. Interested organisations, groups or individuals will only have to prepare papers related to any of the sub-themes listed in the guidelines provided.
A Technical Sub Committee will then review all papers submitted. The Committee will then either approve or reject them based on whether they are relevant for any of the sub themes or whether the papers are presented in the approved formats. Click here for details on how to submit a paper.
However, the Sector Review Sessions will still be by invitation with the core WASH Sector Institutions and Agencies presenting overviews of their respective sub-sectors at plennary sessions and panel discussions.
The date for the 2011 GWF will also change; the Organizing Committee has proposed early September (instead of the traditional late October) for the Forum. Two major reasons account for this proposal:
- Ministers do not find October very confortable for the forum since they will be required to make inputs into the National Budget around that time. The quality of the Ministerial and Development Partner Roundtable will be affected if a convenient date is not selected;
- The Children and Youth will be in school and would be missing school days while at the forum.
Maintaining Accra as the permanent venue is, however, still under discussion and for now Accra is tentatively the venue for GWF 3.
